Draw the usable space

Measure the tabletop after allowing for lamps, charging cables, books and the path of a reaching hand. Include space above the outlet and the refill arrangement. Keep emitted mist away from bedding, finishes and electrical items.

The two candidates here are cool-mist humidifiers. VUL520 should not be confused with a Vicks warm-steam vaporizer. The standard MistAire product also should not inherit tank capacities from larger variants.

What would a spill reach?

Think through lifting, opening and replacing the tank while tired. If a spill would run directly into a power strip or bedside charger, change the location. A tray does not override the manufacturer’s surface or clearance requirements.

Keep the cord from becoming a trip or pulling hazard. Do not place a unit where a child or pet can pull it down. If the permitted position is somewhere else in the room, a “nightstand” label is not a reason to ignore it.

Check controls and overnight water use

Compare visibility and ease of adjustment with the room lights dimmed. Estimate refill needs from use at your actual setting rather than assuming a stated maximum will cover every night. Smaller capacity can be easier to handle but may need more frequent attention.
