Measure the mattress and all layers that remain beneath the fitted sheet. Compare that combined depth with the sheet manufacturer’s stated fit range.
Planning calculation: combined depth = mattress depth + added layer thickness. Advertised pocket depth minus combined depth gives a rough allowance, not a guarantee of corner fit.
For example, a 12-inch mattress and a 2-inch topper total 14 inches before other substantial layers. A nominal 16-inch pocket suggests two inches of allowance, but elastic design, seams, shrinkage and the manufacturer’s fit definition still matter. No universal two-inch threshold certifies compatibility.
Check width and length as well as depth. Fit the permitted layers without stretching connectors or pinching a water hose. If corners repeatedly pull free, resolve sizing rather than adding excessive strap tension. Keep return conditions in mind when the fit cannot be confirmed before opening.
